Phynyx (formerly know as Phoenix) is a pioneering Rock band from Manipur, formed in late 1980s.  Lien was a member of a Rock/Metal band 'Black Tooth Sabre' from Pune and after the band disbanded he returned to Manipur and  joined the band Phoenix. They changed the name from Phoenix to Phynyx in 1994 to avoid confusion with other groups after Lien Gangte joined the band. They became the only rock band from Northeast India interviewed and featured on MTV Asia as a 'Promising and Upcoming Band'.  Their music was featured on notable releases, including 'Woman' in Great Indian Rock Vol. II and Rock Music Manipur Vol. I compilations. After few years they disbanded  and later after as year on hiatus, Lien, Gouhau, Bobby and Ringo rose from the ashes of Phynyx and reformed as ‘White Dove’, with Gouhau on the lead guitar.
