Great Bear is a pioneering Rock band from Kolkata, formed in late 1971. They are considered one of the first bands in India to play original English rock music. The band was known for their original compositions and for competing in the Simla Beat Contest where they were featured in a compilation of East Indian garage bands originally released as a promotional item by an Indian tobacco company. They were also the first group to play a one-hour-long original rock opera called The White Knight's Tale, inspired by Lewis Caroll.
