Suraj Jagan (born in Trichur, Kerasla), is best known as one of the pioneers of the Rock scene in India. In 1988, Suraj got his first gig with a Jazz Rock band called ‘Aurora’ and he played just a single show with them. Following this, Suraj founded the Rock band ‘Krysys’ in 1989. The band won several competitions in college fests all over India, including ‘Best Vocalist’ at Mood Indigo (IIT Powai). Krysys underwent several lineup changes and finally disbanded in 1993. Suraj moved to Hongkong in 1993, and founded ‘Matchbox’, a Beatles cover band, with ex ‘Rock Machine’ drummer Mark Menezes. Suraj finally returned to Mumbai in early 1995 andwas offered to be part of ‘Chakraview’, a band which was founded by Dhruv Ghanekar (Blue Frog). As a band, Chakraview only performed their original compositions which were rare in the 90’s in India, but finally disbanded in 1997 as the founding members left to study music in the US. Between 1997 and 2006 Suraj was part of rock bands like 'AFS' & 'Spyrals' as the lead vocalist. Spyrals won the ‘Great Indian Rock competition’ in 1997. Suraj also founded ‘The Orchid Room Experiment’, which was as its name describes, an experiment, where several musicians with different musical styles composed & performed together. Finally Suraj founded a Rock band Dream Out Loud in 2006 but disbanded on 2009 due to Suraj & Chandresh’s hectic schedules. Now he works in advertising jingle campaigns, Bollywood playback singing, acting in theatre productions and an acting role in the Bollywood film.
